Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

OCD is a disorder in which a person experiences uncontrollable or recurrent thoughts (obsessions), engages in repetitive behaviors (compulsions), or both.

People with OCD have time-consuming symptoms that can cause significant distress or interfere with daily life.

Symptoms of OCD

  • Excessive cleaning or handwashing due to fear of germs/contamination

  • Constantly ordering or arranging items in a particular way

    Avoids or dislikes tasks requiring sustained mental effort

  • Aggressive thoughts toward yourself

  • Fear of losing control over your behavior

  • Compulsive counting, praying, or repeating words

  • Inability to control obsessions or compulsions even when excessive

  • Spending more than 1 hour per day on obsessions or compulsions
